Have you ever been on the world’s most famous volcano? Accompanied by expert guides, you will follow a scenic trail on Mount Vesuvius to reach the lava flow from the March 1944 eruption. From a natural panoramic terrace, you can admire an extraordinary view of the Gulf of Naples, made even more captivating during sunset excursions.
The route is rated easy and alternates between flat sections, ascents and descents. Starting at an altitude of 568 metres, you will walk through woods of acacia, chestnut and European hop-hornbeam before reaching a panoramic area characterised by typical Mediterranean scrub.
Here, you can observe the 1944 lava flow up close, recognisable by its silvery-grey shades and the presence of Stereocaulon vesuvianum, known as the Vesuvius lichen. Before you, a spectacular view will open up over the Gulf of Naples and the Cognoli di Giacca and Cognoli di Trocchia peaks of Mount Somma.
During the excursion, your guide will introduce you to the biodiversity of the Vesuvius area, while also explaining the trail restoration techniques and the ancient Bourbon water-management structures.
The return follows the same route, giving you more time to immerse yourself in the colours, scents and sounds of one of Campania’s most fascinating natural environments.
