FAQ PARAGLIDING

• Is it dangerous to fly in a tandem paraglider?

Flying a tandem paraglider can be dangerous in exactly the same way as any other sporting activity.

If practised responsibly, with good technical and theoretical preparation, with certified material and in suitable weather conditions, the risk is almost zero. 

•  Is tandem paragliding an extreme sport?

The sport of tandem paragliding does not count as an extreme sport. In fact, it can be practised in such a variety of ways that one can easily go from the highly adrenalin-pumping experience (strong updrafts and special evolutions) to the totally relaxing experience (gliding in calm air).

The safety margins are, however, always very high.

• Does tandem paragliding give dizziness problems?

Problems of vertigo can arise for those who are actually affected. Be careful, however, not to confuse vertigo with the normal fear of heights, which affects all humans and which, in the case of paragliding, is not a problem at all!

Anyone - including pilots - feels discomfort when looking down from a bridge or balcony; a feeling that is amplified in the case of an absence of safety devices (barriers, harnesses, ...).

During flight, thanks to the comfortable position and the absence of nearby terrestrial references, this perception is completely absent. Perception is completely absent. Once in the air, the sensation is even much less uncomfortable than when sitting on a chairlift.

• Who can fly a tandem paraglider?

Tandem pilots must hold a special qualification issued by the Aero Clubof Italy, obtained through participation in a specific training course and passing a dedicated examination. Among other things, this qualification allows the pilot to take out the compulsory insurance contract.

• Is an emergency parachute provided for tandem paragliders?

Yes. Each tandem pilot has, inside his harness, a special emergency canopy parachute that can be pulled out in unrecoverable flight situations. Both parachute and paraglider remain attached to the crew during the emergency. The philosophy is as follows: the parachute must never be needed but must always be there! This is the only way to guarantee the highest standard in terms of safety.

In the world, there are almost no cases of an emergency in which the tandem pilot has had to pull out a rescue parachute.
